Message Notification - Residence and Business - V6.0
Product Description
Message Notification notifies an end-user of new messages in their mailbox by calling another number. The number called may be:
- Any 7-digit local telephone number
- Any 10-digit local telephone number
- A toll-free number (NPA 800, 866, 877 or 888)
- A pager telephone number
- A non-pager telephone number
- Use one or two schedules
Message Notification can only be provided as an optional feature to an end-user that has one of the following services:
Service | USOC(s) |
Residence | |
Voice Messaging Service - Residence Only | VMJXA, VMJXB |
Mailbox Only - Residence Only | VMJXX |
Business | |
Voice Mail Mailbox - Business Only | MBB, MBBXA |
Business Voice Messaging Service Choice | VVMAD, VVMAE, VVMAF, VVMAG |
An end-user that subscribes to Message Notification has the ability to:
- Turn notification on or off as desired
- Program the number to be dialed
- Choose to be notified of all calls or just urgent calls
- Choose how quickly notification can occur
An end-user may have only one Message Notification feature per mailbox. Message Notification can not be used to simultaneously notify multiple pagers. Each Message Notification has three schedules:
- Schedule One can go to a pager or a telephone number.
- Schedule Two always goes to a telephone number.
- Schedule One and Schedule Two can be used together as long as the notification times do not overlap.
- Schedule Three will temporarily override Schedules One and Two.
Message Notification Residence is a simplified version of the Message Notification feature offered for business accounts. Message Notification Residence does not have the following Business Voice Message Service Message Notification capabilities:
- Designation of urgent messages
- Multiple schedules
- Override schedule (Business Schedule Three)
- Schedules for setting Message Notification at specific times
- Choice of how quickly notification will occur
If the notification goes to a pager, the pager will signal the end-user that a new message has been entered into their mailbox by displaying:
- 11111 for residential accounts
- 77777 for business accounts
If notification goes to a non-pager, it will dial the telephone number and play the message (after the end-user enters the correct security code).
The system makes the following Out Call Attempts when reaching a busy or don't answer condition on a subscriber's pager number:
If the system reaches a... | And the call is... | Then the system makes |
Busy Condition | Urgent | 5 attempts in 10 minute increments |
Non-Urgent | ||
Don't Answer Condition* | Urgent | 5 attempts in 10 minute increments |
Non-Urgent | ||
* - The system determines if a "Don't Answer" condition exists after 6 rings. If a person answers the call and does not interact with the VRU, the VRU will assume it has reached a "Don't Answer" condition. If a machine answers the call, the VRU will assume it has reached a "Don't Answer" condition. Depending on the machine's greeting, part of the Message Notification script may be recorded. |

Depending on the length of the machine's greeting, part of the Message Notification script may be recorded. Notification tries later based on a No Answer schedule. |
Call Forwarding Variable | Limited compatibility

Route to Other Number | Compatible |
Scheduled Greetings | Compatible |
Voice Messaging | Not compatible
If Message Notification goes to a Voice Messaging Service, the system recognizes voice mail and stops. Nothing is put in the receiving mailbox. |
Voice Pager | Limited compatibility
May not work depending on paging equipment. It is best to choose a telephone number rather than pager when you have a voice pager. |
Wireless Phone | Limited compatibility Works if wireless number is a local seven or ten digit number. Will not work on wireless phone with Calling Party Pays because these calls are not toll free. |
