On a limited income? You can save with Lifeline services from CenturyLink. This government assistance program can help you save on your monthly local phone service service or broadband service of at least 10Mbps download speed or 1Mbps upload speed or higher.
Services Provided
CenturyLink's Lifeline service provides access to voice, broadband, emergency and operator services, directory assistance and toll limitation for qualifying low-income consumers.
Unlimited local usage within CenturyLink's defined local calling areas is provided as part of the plan. Additional charges may apply for expanded local calling options.
Long distance charges will be assessed by your long distance carrier - please consult your long distance carrier for rates and charges that may apply.
Customers can also apply the discounts to their broadband service that meets the Lifeline requirements of at least 10Mbps download speed with 1Mbps upload speed or higher.
Only one Lifeline discount is allowed per household.
Four Options for Telephone Assistance in Arizona
There are four ways that a residential customer may be approved for Telephone discounts in the state of Arizona. There is the Federal Lifeline Program, the Federal Tribal Lifeline Program, the Senior Telephone Discount Program (STDP) and the Medically Needy Telephone Assistance Program (TAP). Please see the below explanations of each of the programs.
Federal Lifeline Discounts
Lifeline provides a discount of $9.25 on monthly service for qualified subscribers in Arizona. Qualifying customers (or a qualifying member of a household) in Arizona must participate in one of the following programs:
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Food Stamps
- Income at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefits
Federal Tribal Lifeline Discounts
Residents of American Indian tribal lands may qualify for up to an additional $25 of enhanced Lifeline support monthly. They may also qualify for the Link-Up program, which helps tribal consumers pay the initial installation costs of obtaining telephone or broadband service. Link-Up provides a credit of up to $100 for the initial installation charges for tribal consumers.
An individual living on tribal lands may qualify for Lifeline and Link-Up discounts if he or she participates in one of the programs listed above (under Federal Lifeline Program), or one of the following programs:
- The Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
- Head Start (only for those households meeting its income qualifying standard).
Federal Lifeline Discounts + Senior Telephone Discount Program (STDP)
Arizona residential customers 65 or older that meet the following guidelines may receive both the Federal Lifeline Discount of $9.25 as well as an additional discount that is based on the sum of 17% of their local exchange service offering.
- 65 or older
- Must be Head of Household
- Have annual income that falls within 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Medically Needy Telephone Assistance Program (TAP)
Arizona residential customers that demonstrate a medical need requiring a telephone in the home and that meet the following criteria will be eligible for the Medically Needy Lifeline Discount that brings their monthly rate down to $0.00.
- Completed confirmation of medical need signed by doctor
- Annual income that falls within the 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
Discounts Apply to:
The Federal Lifeline and Senior Telephone Discount Program discounts apply to the following local exchange service offerings:
- Flat rate individual service
- Low use option service
- Monthly increments
- Local area calling usage
- Broadband at speeds of at least 10Mpbs download speed and 1Mbps upload speed or higher
The Medically Needy program applies to Flat rate individual service only.
Please be aware that only one Lifeline discount may be received per household, even if the household has more than one telephone or broadband account, including landline or wireless phone service. Lifeline service is not transferable, and only eligible consumers may enroll in the program. Documentation of eligibility is required to enroll. Consumers who willfully make false statements in order to obtain Lifeline telephone service can be punished by fine or imprisonment and can be barred from the program.
